DREAM TRIP
ON JUNE 11, 2008 BUD AND I TOOK THE BIKE RIDE WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO FOR SEVERAL YEARS......WE CYCLED THE MYRA CANYON SECTION OF THE KETTLE VALLEY RAILROAD TRAIL. WE THOUGHT WE COULD GO TO CHUTE LAKE AND CYCLE BOTH DIRECTIONS, SO HEADED UP THERE..........BAD MISTAKE. THE ROAD WAS AWFUL, AND SO STEEP WITH FAR TOO MANY HAIRPIN CURVES FOR OUR LIKING. WE FOUND A SLIGHTLY FLAT PIECE OF GRAVEL TO UNHOOK THE CAR TO MAKE THE CLIMB LESS STRESSFUL FOR THE POOR MOTORHOME. NOBODY TOLD US NOT TO TAKE IT UP THAT DREADFUL ROAD, AND THERE WAS NOWHERE TO TURN AROUND, SO UP WE WENT. WE WERE LOOKING FORWARD TO A NICE MEAL AT THE LODGE BUT WERE INFORMED THEY WERE NOT COOKING THIS YEAR! WE GOT A SITE AMONG SOME TREES AND WERE TOLD THEY WERE ON A "BOIL WATER" ORDER, SO THAT WAS ANOTHER STRESS. WE DECIDED NOT TO CYCLE FROM THERE AS IT WOULD BE A 74 KM RETURN RIDE, AND PLANNED TO LEAVE RIGHT AFTER BREAKFAST IN THE MORNING. I DIDN'T SLEEP AS I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE TRIP "DOWN" THAT AWFUL ROAD. WELL, THE BRAKES SMOKED AND ALMOST CAUGHT FIRE ON THE MOTORHOME COMING DOWN, BUT BUD GOT THEM COOLED DOWN SO ALL WAS OK. WE WENT TO PENTICTON AND GOT A NICE RV SITE IN A GOOD PARK AND DROVE TO KELOWNA AND HAD OUR BIKE RIDE OVER THE 18 TRESTLES. THEY ARE REALLY VERY NICE, AND THE SCENERY WAS BREATHTAKING. THE BURNED FOREST IS SLOWLY GETTING GREEN AGAIN, AND WE EVEN SAW SOME WILD FLOWERS BLOOMING. IT WAS A GREAT RIDE, AND WE WILL DO IT AGAIN ONE DAY.
